The Block 2019: Alisa and Lysandra Fraser unleash on Mitch and Marks design

Publish date: 2024-06-24

Tonight’s episode of The Block saw the return of series favourites and 2013 winners Alisa and Lysandra Fraser, but their appearance wasn’t without controversy.

Now two of Australia’s best-known interior designers, the former Adelaide police officers joined the 2019 cast as part of all-star week.

“The twins” were paired with experienced house flippers Mitch and Mark who they seemed to get along with at first. But when it came to critiquing the contestants’ build-in-progress, they didn’t hold back.

As they entered the guest bedroom, Alisa uttered “Wow,” before looking around the room and adding; “Interesting … this better not be our room,” with a laugh.

Noticing Mitch and Mark’s flabbergasted expressions, Alisa continued; “I’m so sorry, I’m so confused.”

Launching into a brutally honest assessment of the room, she went on: “There are so many elements I love of it … But it’s like surf, then it’s like Hollywood glamour, then it’s like contemporary. But then you’ve got the panelling which is quite classic.”

All the while Lysandra stood beside her, laughing and holding her hand to her mouth.

Mitch and Mark were at a loss for words following the comments, with Mitch then telling the camera; “This is our baby, what we’ve done so far. You’ve just told me that my baby’s ugly”.

Later, the twins told producers they knew their cutthroat critique would have been “hard to hear” but they were “just being honest”.

It’s not the first time the twins — who were prone to a dummy spit on their own season — have ruffled feathers on returning to the show.

After making an appearance in 2014, Alisa and Lysandra attacked the program, believing they were portrayed to look lazy.

“When we work day and night every single day to build our brand it is disgusting how in one night The Block can try and rip it from us,” the sisters said on Facebook.

“If only they actually knew that most nights we aren’t in bed until after 12am working relentlessly on our business, maybe they would think twice about dragging our name through the mud! If there is 1 thing in this world we are not, that’s lazy! Very very hurtful and utterly disappointed!”

The twins will feature again in tomorrow night’s episode, and it looks as though they’re no less harsh on Mitch and Mark’s styling taste as they tour the rest of the apartment.

The Block continues tomorrow night at 7.30pm on Channel 9.
