Columbus Ohio Temple open house parking reservations

Publish date: 2024-06-18

Parking reservations are now available to tour the Columbus Ohio Temple during the public open house via reservations.ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

The public open house is Saturday, April 29, through Saturday, May 13, excluding Sundays. The first slots vary from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Eastern Time, depending on the day, and the last reservations are at 8 p.m. Like the Washington D.C. Temple open house last year, the reservations are for vehicles as parking near the temple is limited.

All ages are invited. The free tours include a short video and then a walking tour and lasts about 50 minutes. It is wheelchair accessible and comfortable shoes and modest dress are also recommended, according to the open house information. The public open house will follow a media day on Monday, April 25, and private session April 25-28.

The 10,700 square foot temple is at 3870 Gateway Blvd., Columbus, and on 2.2 acres.

The announcement of the Aug. 15, 2020, closure of the Columbus Ohio Temple for renovations came on March 27, 2020, two days after the First Presidency closed all temple operations because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

President M. Russell Ballard, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, will preside at the Sunday, June 4, rededication. Dedicatory sessions will be broadcast to all in that temple district.

The Columbus temple, which stands some 150 miles south of Kirtland, Ohio, was dedicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley in September 1999. Kirtland is where early Latter-day Saints dedicated the first temple of the modern era in 1836, having to abandon it two years later. The Community of Christ currently owns and operates the Kirtland Temple.

President Hinckley announced the Columbus Ohio Temple in April 1998; it was dedicated in September of the following year. A second Latter-day Saint temple was announced for Cleveland, Ohio, by President Nelson in April 2022 general conference.

More than 63,000 Latter-day Saints in nearly 130 congregations reside in Ohio.
